Summit 2011: Day 2

Summit Day 2 began with buggy start. No, really, bugs in the street. Rumor has it it’s Atlassians dressed as insects who were invading Apple WWDC, but we will neither confirm nor deny.

The Atlassian keynote address was totally packed, nary a seat to be found. Mike Cannon-Brookes, Atlassian CEO and Co-founder, introduced new beta versions of Confluence 4.0 and Jira 4.4, the former with a brand-spanking new editor and latter with a completely overhauled Admin UX, and two new products, Team Calendars, a new calendar-sharing add-on to Confluence, and Bonfire, a browser extension for agile testing. Both products are available now for download.

Following the keynotes, we ran our second annual launchpad event in which eleven of the Atlassian Summit sponsors gave 5-minute demos of their latest and greatest plugins, add-ons and integrations to Atlassian tools. Presentations included superheroes in tights, game shows and many simple-but-damn-good presentations. In the end, Stepstone Zen won the popular vote and was declared victor by a slim margin.

Today’s Summit concluded with a big bash at the San Francisco Thirsty Bear brewing where attendees were able to feast on three Atlassian brews, the API IPA, University Ale, and Goat’s Beer’d. The highlight was the karaoke upstairs that turned Summit presenters into crooners, sponsors into rock stars, and the entire crowd into a Bohemian Rhapsody chorus.
