Since I started talking about Codegeist this year, I’ve been pointing people at the plugin wishlist. It’s the place where we capture all the plugin ideas that we don’t have time to build, and where the community can suggest new plugins that they think would be useful.
That’s all well and good, but it’s a pretty big list of ideas we’ve collected in there. I thought that I might pull out a few of my favourite ideas for a blog post. Now, I’m not involved in the judging for Codegeist, so picking one of my favourites isn’t necessarily going to help you win. But I can say that any of these ideas would make useful plugins, and that usefulness is definitely one of the criteria we look for.

- Easy – Show X Random Issues form a saved filter
- Medium – Display a Confluence page in a Jira Portlet
Confluence
- Easy – Improve the Recent Changes Macro
- Medium – User History Plugin
- Medium – Copy Space Plugin
- Hard – IRC-style Chat Plugin
Bamboo
Crowd
- Medium – A Shibboleth Authenticator for Crowd.
- Hard – a Connector to allow one Crowd to use another Crowd as a Repository. (I’m not even sure this is possible, but it sure sounds cool!)
That’s a good selection of some of my favourite plugin ideas. My guess, the easy ones could be done in about a day. The medium ones might be done in 2-3 days. The hard ones are more ambitious, but would be a very impressive entry. So, there’s still plenty of time to tackle one of these projects. And don’t forget that you can collaborate with a team of three. So don’t be shy about asking for help on the mailing lists.
